Subject to confirmation that this

understanding is correct, he

proposes to inform Sir Cecil

Clementi accordingly.

4. With reference to the

last paragraph of the telegram,

Mr. Amery would like to be in a

position to explain to Sir Cecil

Clementi exactly what the

Universities Committee for the

assistance of Anglo-Chinese

studies is, and he would be glad

to receive further details of

this Committee.

are being sent to the Treasury

and Board of Trade.
